Mercofoods is a company whose roots lie on the conviction that Argentina must turn, sooner or later, into one of the most important food suppliers in the world. Ours is a local company of international projection, grounded on the idea of giving the apicultural sector the necessary conditions to comply with the market demands as to Quality, Sanitation, Traceability, Regularity, and, most importantly for producers, Profitability. We are convinced that international certification in these areas will provide our company with the added value which is necessary to position us as protagonists in this setting.
Our company began to operate in 2004, when we began to buy, store and sell honey. As we went deeper into the apicultural field, we realized it was quite an informal sector, which only generated benefits for a few while relegating its main protagonists: the producers.
At the beginning of 2005 we decided that the path to sustained growth was a different one. We understood we had to become closer to producers. What is more, we needed to become producers ourselves, without leaving aside our aim of producing internationally certified food products.
We were convinced that success in this business depended on all the protagonists in the sector, and this led us to summon all of the area’s producers so that they could join us in our project to face a new business together.

In time there emerged the Mercofoods PROTOCOL for honey production, which standardizes the way all producers work, with the aim of achieving a uniform, high-quality product, enough to supply the growing international demands. We started up the first extraction room authorized by SENASA in south Santa Fe, where everything from the process of extraction itself to the machinery was designed by us, always upholding the ideal of ongoing improvement.

To Mercofoods the conservation of the environment is not negotiable, and this is fully mirrored in our work. For instance, this can be seen in the setting up of the beehives, which are made of wood from cultivated forests. As a way to protect our forests’ biodiversity, we do not use native wood in our apiaries. We also aim towards conservation in the use of a system of sustainable treatment of solid urban waste in Santa Isabel, a plan of which we are mentors, active partners and co-financiers
